L.A. Confidential: How The LAPD Conspired To Get Me Fired From The Los Angeles Times

My Comments to Ted on his blog:

1) Ted, if it’s any comfort to you, take this incident as proof that you are being effective in your efforts. As Mao Zedong said:

“I hold that it is bad as far as we are concerned if a person, a political party, an army or a school is not attacked by the enemy, for in that case it would definitely mean that we have sunk to the level of the enemy. It is good if we are attacked by the enemy, since it proves that we have drawn a clear dividing line between the enemy and ourselves. It is still better if the enemy attacks us wildly and paints us as utterly black and without a single virtue; it demonstrates that we have not only drawn a clear dividing line between the enemy and ourselves but have achieved spectacular successes in our work.”

2) Ted, I notice you’re on RT quite a bit and now you have a graphic novel coming out about Edward Snowden. Your politics are very much left of center and very critical of the political establishment, even the Democrats’ so-called progressive left-wing. You have probably attracted the attention of this establishment and they are now retaliating against you. It has been the mission of certain institutions like the FBI and CIA to deal with political dissidents that pose a threat or a potential threat to the system. I don’t want to freak you out, but I think it is entirely likely that the LAPD is a front and a cover for this attack on you; the masterminds of this retribution and character assassination [or soft assassination] may be higher up the food chain than you have imagined.

Over here, we call this sort of incident a ‘fit-up’. You fit the situation and the individual to the outcome you want, not necessarily the one that actually happened. It seems Ted has proved his point, but it came at the cost of a job, and scars on his reputation.
    Best wishes, Pete.
