A Joke from East Germany: The Alcoholic Worker

Apparently, in the estimation of some citizens, the DDR’s commitment to egalitarianism went a bit too far:

An alcoholic worker’s family goes to the head of the factory where he works and says, “We’re worried about our Willie, he spends all the money he gets on drink. Please give him a promotion so he’ll have less money and won’t drink so much!”
