Propaganda Terms & Identity Politics: Low Income Community

This ain’t no “low income community.” These motherfuckers are broke! Sugar-coating does not help, it only does more harm.

If you live in the US, have you noticed how in political discourse every possible demographic identity, real or imagined, has become its own separate (but equal!) “community”?

Well, I heard a new one recently. Apparently it has been in use for several years now at least, but I just heard this term last weekend: Low Income Community. When I heard those words spoken by a celebrity on TV plugging some new cause or charity my jaw hit the fucking floor. I didn’t know whether to laugh, scream or cry – or all three.

As George Carlin once said, “Smug, greedy, well-fed white people have invented a language to conceal their sins. It’s as simple as that.”

This is clearly a propaganda term invented to sanitize and compartmentalize poor people into just another political identity or market segment for the purposes of divide and rule.

We have a different word for that. ‘Poverty.’
